Holiday Season & Family Gatherings

Here we are the 2nd week of November aka the “in between” phase of finishing up the leftover Halloween candy & going turkey shopping…& before you know it you hop on the wagon for the Holiday Gatherings Season of the year..the back to back marathon of Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s,etc. The one thing all these gatherings with family or friends have in common is yes you guessed it right FOOD..in fact so much delicious food w/ endless options leaving you no choice but to dig in & indulge. But that’s very the part that many of us dread the most about the Holidays!

So let’s talk about it for a bit…
before the holiday season begins we live in an anxious mind set..something along the lines of: “I’m gonna sabotage all the progress I made in losing weight”
“I will gain around 5-7 lbs  & put on extra weight”
“ I don’t want to over eat but I know I won’t be able to control myself”
& lastly my personal fav..the wise one that decides to starve themselves months in advace of the Holiday Season so that they can survive it without feeling guilty & giving themselves permission to eat during family gatherings, thinking this is the “healthy” way to do it. After the holiday season, “the guilt trip” phase begins & this phase goes kind of like this…
“what did I do to myself?! I over ate, I’m so bloated”
“I feel heavy & so unmotivated”
“Who am I kidding I definitely gained weight, what is the point of trying to get back on track, I ruined all my progress & there’s no fixing that..the damage has already been done”…you get the picture

Quick question here: WHY do we love & enjoy torturing ourselves?

If you’re in hovering mode always shifting between anxiety before, guilt after, & stress during (gift shopping & non gift shopping related), how would that leave any space for enjoyment to seep in??!
These Holidays are a once a year events for a reason, they are meant to be enjoyed & yes even devoured. Enjoy yourself but in moderation, watch out for your portion sizes & believe me I know Aunt Betty made her famous casserole but that still is not signal for you to eat the whole thing yourself..leave some for the rest of the family to try
The techniques are simple they reqire one thing & that’s for you to apply them. Need more tips on how to do that reach out to us, we can even help you w/ adjusting your eating habits & reframing your mindset towards food..& keep following us there’s more to come!!!
But for now I leave you with this, absorb as much Holiday cheer as you possibly can because that’s the real fuel that gets us going for the rest of the year!
So go ahead keep sipping on your pumpkin spice latte, enjoy a few slices of turkey, have yourself a Christmas desert of your own choosing, including that gingerbread man cookie you’ve been eyeing & those endless cups of hot cocoa topped w/ marshmallows..oops almost forgot the candy canes!

I hope you get to really enjoy all the upcoming occasions & gatherings ..wishing you a happy & totally guilt free Holiday Season!!
